kang gary / Kang Hee-gun (born February 24, 1978), is a South Korean rapper, songwriter, lyricist, record producer, dancer, entertainer, promoter, television personality, restaurateur and founder of Leessang Company. He is member of leessang. He is also currently a cast member of the variety show Running Man.
HIS EARLY YEARS
Gary was born on February 24, 1978. His nickname in middle school was "Gae" (meaning "dog" in Korean), which he adapted to become his stage name, after deciding between "gaemi" (ant) and "Gary". In his younger years, he was more interested in dancing than rapping.
Gary went to Yong In University and trained as a bodyguard. He was an amateur boxer for 10 years and his qualifications in various martial arts sum up to 8th dan.
HIS MUSICAL CAREER
In 1997, Gary joined X-Teen and helped in releasing two albums in 1998 and 2000, and met Gil, who was a member of the X-Teen. At the time, Gary said that they were not good looking and their music was not great either which made them quit the group. Gary and Gil ended up joining "Honey Family" and released two albums in 1999 and 2000. Gary takes part of the responsibility for the break up of the group stating he "started feeling like a celebrity". Gary, Gil, and Diggity decided to form "Leessam Trio ("sam" means three in Korean)". They released a compilation album called 2000 Korea, in the year 2000. When Diggity left the group, Gary and Gil changed the name to LeeSsang.
In January 2014 he released a mini album, Mr.Gae. Gary‘s title track “Shower Later” clenched the number 1 spot on 8 real-time music charts!
HIS ACTIVITIES
In 2010, Gary joined Running Man as co-host, an urban variety show. He had a cameo on the movie Wonderful Radio, and in February 2014 another cameo,Emergency Couple.

KANG GARY HARDSHIPS
HIS INJURY
Leessang's Gary recovers from his recent medical admission after receiving treatment for his herniated disc . It was reported that Gary was admitted to a clinic on August 30th for the full diagnosis and immediately went for the high frequency procedure.
It was also revealed that Gary was suffering from back pains for the past ten years and was subject to numerous investigations and treatments in various clinics and institutes. However, because of his hectic filming schedule for "Running Man" and concert gigs with Leessang, Gary's back pain worsened. He was later on advised by fellow "Running Man" regulars Ji Sukjin, Kim Jongkook and Lee Kwangsoo to a nearby medical institute, where he eventually got the treatment. After the successful procedure, Gary will continue rehabilitation for the next two to three months.
Due to his back injury, Gary was unable to participate in the filming for "Running Man" episodes, "Running Man: Face Off" and "Romantic Comedy" and was temporarily replaced by Dynamic Duo's Gaeko and MBLAQ's Lee Joon respectively. Last August 29th, a "Running Man" staff member confirmed that Gary participated on the show's "Running Man: Park Taehwan-Son Yeonjae" episode filming on the 27th, which was eventually aired on September 2nd.

HIS ANNOUNCEMENNT
Gary has plunged his and Running Man′s fans into a state of shock as he announced through his Twitter that he will ′put a halt to all variety activities.′
On September 21, Gary tweeted, ′I plan to put a halt to all variety activities in order to concentrate more on the management of LeeSsang Company and its musical performances. I′m very sorry this announcement had to be made so suddenly. I′m sorry.′
The sudden decision seems to have stemmed from the recent controversy surrounding the now-cancelled Super 7 Concert that has been a hot topic on the web these past few days.
The Super 7 Concert had come under fire regarding its high ticket prices, its vague relation to the showInfinity Challenge and its vague purpose.
Just before Gary′s tweet, the MBC Infinity Challenge members had announced through LeeSsang Company′s official webpage that the Super 7 Concert, which was originally scheduled to take place on November 24 and 25, had been cancelled.
The members said in the announcement and apology, "We believe we were too concentrated on the quality of the performance that we missed the more important issues. We′re sincerely sorry for causing confusion with our inexperience among those who had trusted us for such a long time."
LeeSsang, the group managing LeeSsang Company, has been pushed to take responsibility for the entire issue as LeeSsang Company was the host of the concert.
Gary took up his own burden by saying he will leave the variety world. As he has been appearing every week as a fixed member on SBS′ Running Man, the program is expected to meet difficulties with his departure.
Fans have shown shock at his announcement, saying, ′I can′t imagine Running Man without Gary,′ ′Please think the decision over one more time′ and ′It seems he suffered so much from the incident.′
Haiz... I really don't want this to happen and if gary is gone, Monday couple and running man will not exist any more so I hope this wont happen and I will be super depressed if this happens. It must be stressful for him... luckily this was a past . I hope this is not true and it will not happen :(
No matter what , he is a sucessful guy and to if he did something wrong i will always forgive him he is the best guy in running man he is the most hamsome guy in korea , as cute and as hamsome as daesung (a member from big bang) he is a very good role model for me and If I had a chance to see him , mabye i will lose my voice in juz a day.... hehe
all running members are precious to me but of course, gary is the best i really wanna be a sucessor like him. and of course, ji hyo too. last long <3
